The Ladin cuisine
The early inhabitants of these Ladin-speaking valleys had only what was needed to survive. Their food was very simple: dairy products, vegetables, corn flour, soup made of barley and beans. Potatoes were not grown here until the 19th century. Ladin cuisine includes a number of dishes that are baked in oil.
Typical Ladin cuisine
- Tutres: small, round cakes filled with curd cheese and spinach, sauerkraut or poppy
- Cajincí arstîs: kind of pasta noodle, baked in oil
- Gnoch da zigher (cheese gnocchi)
- Bales da cioce (ham dumplings)
- Crafuns mori und Furtaies: sweet pastry
- Cütles da pom: pastry with apples
